MULTIPLEX by Tom Dixon

Tom puts on a show by giving his products a platform to perform.

We have wanted to blog about MULTIPLEX for ages just because we think it’s a blooming fantastic idea. Back in April Tom Dixon revealed the new environment trade show and exhibition concept at Salone del Mobile. Based upon the TD spirit of innovation and enlarging multiple dimensions of creativity and efficiency, MULTIPLEX was more than your average furniture exhibition – it was a pop-up viewing theatre, a broadcasting centre, restaurant, shop and gallery!!! Phew! And we thought Flash Factory was pushing the boat out.

With some help from partners Blackberry Playbook, visitors could experience a trail of sensations created through 6 hyper real environments such as a Science Lab, Hotel Lobby and Viewing Theatre – with each of the sections exploring various ideas of luminosity and technology. The Broadcast Centre also updated information daily from all over the fair onto a giant wall of projections, how very handy.

With MULTIPLEX products are like props on a stage with the visitors becoming actors (in a sense). Being able to see and interact with products in living environments enables visitors to imagine more clearly how the Tom Dixon products could work for them – be it for domestic or commercial use (very clever). Not only is this way of exhibiting visually exciting, it’s also an engaging and memorable experience. Your never going to forget the time you a tasty snack from Stevie Parle in a pop-up restaurant called Parlement (see what they did there) now are you? Well, I know I wouldn’t.

We only wish we could of been there to experience it (for now Milano is just a dream) – I wonder what they will do next year?
