The Stylist’s Closet

The Stylist’s Closet

– The Brief

We were asked by the Fashion Department at UCLan to design the set/back drop for their two day styling event at the bandstand in the Trafford Centre, as well as help produce branding to go on their promotional material. Originally the theme was vintage cinematic but this soon changed to bohemian traveller. They were inspired by a recent photoshoot from a graduate who had mixed bright bold colours with ethnic prints and patterns as part of the promotional material for the event.

– Our Approach

We had limited time and a small budget so we approached the project by doing some quick visual research. We put together a few taster boards to get a feel for the project and then showed them to the promotional team. Through doing this they had something to incorporate into their branding and marketing and we had a few ideas for decorating the bandstand. Soon we put together a rough plan and started to source second hand furniture and props from auction houses and charity shops. Some things we left alone as their worn appearance gave them a nostalgic beauty but others we revamped by either painting in a bright colour or reupholstering with a mix of ethnic prints. We also helped the promotion team to tie this in with their branding so the message was consistent throughout.

– Eco Aspect

Upcycling secondhand furniture, sourcing props from charity shops – the fashion department can also use the props and furniture for future promotional events and fashion shoots so the once unwanted and neglected objects will now have a new purpose and be in constant use.
